Fushimi-ku

Fushimi is the southernmost ward of the eleven wards in Kyoto.

Just a 20-minute train ride from Kyoto Station, the Fushimi Inari-Taisha, an awe-inspiring 8th-century Shinto shrine, is by far its biggest attraction and has long been on my bucket list.

Construction of the shrine’s earliest structures began in 711 A.D., and the famous tunnel of 10,000 torii gates, known as Senbon Torii, stretches up and down a mountain path, beginning just above the actual shrine.

Pictures and words can’t do it justice, but here are a few snaps from my sacred journey up the path…
